TINA'S TIPS

THE NATURAL EAR WASH

This ear remedy combines the antibacterial elements of garlic with a soothing property of olive oil.  Use this recipe to clean your cats ears as well as smother any ear mites that may be present. Minor ear infections will sometimes respond to this remedy, but for a more serious infection or infection consult your veterinarian right away.

INGREDIENTS:

2 cloves of fresh garlic
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 cups water
3 drops oil from a vitamin E soft gel
1 drop grapefruit seed extract

DIRECTIONS:

Chop the fresh garlic cloves, place them in a small bowl, and add enough olive oil to cover the garlic completely. Place the bowl over some just boiled water, or heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Let the infusion sit in the refrigerator for five to seven days to allow the garlic to release its medicinal properties into the olive oil.

When ready to use, strain the oil and add three drops of the vitamin E and one drop of the grapefruit seed extract.

Place in a dropper bottle if available.  This mix will last up to three months if stored in a cool dry place.

Use the drops sparingly, to much can burn the skin.

APPLICATION:

To clean your cat's ears, dab a small amount of the garlic infused olive oil onto a cotton ball or a Qtip, lift the ear flap, and gently wipe the inside of the ears.  With the dropper, put two to three drops as close to the ear canal as possible, let go the the ear flap, and gently massage from the outside.

This infusion will help dissolve ear wax, prevent ear infections and ward off ear mites.

VACCINATION CLINICS

You could save up to 25% or more on vaccination clinics rather than running to the veterinarians office for vaccinations and flea control.  Contact local pet supply stores in your area, most offer a pet vaccination clinic at a much lower rate and are regulated by the FDA so you don't need to worry if your pet is getting the proper vaccination treatment.

CAT LITTER SUBSTITUTION
Shredded paper makes a great substitute for Kitty Litter.  Use the shredded news paper or shred your own paper, you can use colored paper to make it more appealing. Line the bottom of the litter box with 1/4 inch of baking soda to help eliminate odor.   Shredded paper is much better than the traditional kitty litter because it will absorb the waste and odor much better, you will not need to replace it as often and it's FREE!
